Claude Cahun, a visionary artist who defied gender norms and Nazi occupation, is the capstone of our Blossom & Wilt exhibit. This powerful collection offers a unique opportunity to explore the intersection of gender identity and resistance during one of history’s darkest periods.

Cahun’s art was as radical as their identity. Through self-portraits, surrealist collages, and subversive texts, they challenged traditional notions of gender and sexuality. Their work often blurred the lines between the masculine and feminine, exploring the fluidity of identity and the performative nature of gender. By adopting different personas and manipulating their appearance, Cahun subverted societal expectations and challenged the binary gender system.
